Complete Development Activities Identified in Approved Individual Development Plan  Surpassed  Derek is an avid reader and stays current in all aspects application development. His technical understanding of both software and hardware and his ability to communicate his knowledge to others has allowed the development team to provide timely and accurate technical recommendations to our customer. 
Implement J2EE Architecture   Surpassed  Derek is an expert in J2EE architecture and has consistently demonstrated extraordinary knowledge and understanding of all J2EE development activities. He has designed, coded, tested and deployed JavaServer pages, Servlets, JavaBeans, Data Access Objects, XML, XSL and JDBC with Oracle 8i. He was the key technical player in the transition of the EMS project from IBM’s J2EE development environment using WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio to Oracle 9i Application Server and CVS Source Management. He set up a Linux server and installed both CVS and our “bug” tracking software, Bugzilla. He has consistently surpassed expectations in all EMS J2EE development areas and he has been a leader in making design recommendations that have been paramount in the success of our project. He consistently delivers well-written, well-designed, portable J2EE compliant programs that meet or exceed project requirements and customer expectations. 
Apply Software Development Process  Surpassed  Derek has demonstrated his ability in all areas of the software development life cycle. He has successfully pushed for a modified “XP style” development process which has precluded our team from stalling in the push for the more traditional “RUP”. He has participated in JAD sessions to capture user requirements, analyzed those requirements and created appropriate J2EE designs. He has coded, tested, debugged and deployed J2EE implementations to the production environment. He consistently produces high quality code with few reworks. He has also created several utility classes which are used by all of the development team to easily provide complex functionality. 
Additional Accomplishments
Derek interacts with our customers and users regularly to gain understanding of their business processes and software requirements. He successfully translates those requirements to produce supportive database structures and software applications. His work encapsulates all phase of software development including application design, coding, testing, deployment and sustainment. Derek is well respected by his users, his customer and his peers. He promotes process improvement and his efforts have been crucial to the success of the EMS project and the continuation of our assignment.

Overall Evaluation Comments
Derek’s knowledge of J2EE architecture proves invaluable to the EMS development activities. The quality and quantity of his output has been superb and include the implementation of a very strict implementation of a variety of schools transcripts with very rigid formats, a complete overhaul of the “look-and-feel” of EMS, numerous well-documented utilities that simplify complex processes for all members of the development team, the implementation of a sophisticated software design for historical records, the creation of a survey creation and administration application, and sustainment of existing software. He has designed database tables, and he has designed, coded, tested and deployed JSPs, Servlets, Data Access Objects, XML and JDBC with Oracle 8i. He was a key player in moving from IBM’s WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio to Oracle 9i AS and CVS Source Management. He is a major contributor and consistently surpasses expectations in all areas of EMS J2EE development.
